This page answers the most common questions about how Vocabrew works, how to use each skill, and what you can expect as a French learner.
General questions
-
Vocabrew is an online platform focused on helping you learn French through targeted skill practice. Instead of only giving you random vocabulary lists, Vocabrew organizes your learning into clear skills such as Reading, Listening, Grammar, Vocabulary, Speaking, Writing and Pronunciation.
-
Vocabrew is designed for adult learners and motivated teens who want a structured, practice-oriented way to improve their French. It works well for complete beginners, self-taught learners, and more advanced students who want extra practice between classes or while preparing for exams.
-
You can work on seven core skills:
- Reading – graded texts with questions and explanations,
- Listening – audio activities to train your ear,
- Grammar – focused drills on specific topics,
- Vocabulary – themed word sets and review,
- Pronunciation – AI-enhanced feedback on how you sound,
- Speaking – prompt-based speaking practice with guidance,
- Writing – short tasks with AI support and examples.
-
You can browse parts of the site without an account, but creating a free account unlocks progress tracking and access to AI-powered features. Some skills (such as Pronunciation, Speaking and Writing) require you to be signed in so we can securely store your progress and recordings.
-
These skills use AI, audio recordings and personal data such as your answers and performance over time. Requiring a login lets us:
- store your progress and history safely,
- protect your recordings and written work,
- prevent misuse of the AI tools and keep the service scalable.
Reading, Listening, Grammar and Vocabulary have public content that you can explore more freely.
-
Yes. The early lessons assume you know little or no French. You can start with simple reading and listening activities that introduce core words and structures step by step. As you become more confident, you can move into more advanced grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation work.
-
Vocabrew is not an official exam preparation service, but the skills you practice here are directly useful for DELF, DALF, TEF and similar exams. Reading and Listening activities improve your comprehension, while Speaking, Writing and Pronunciation help you perform better in productive tasks.
-
Each skill is organized into categories and small lessons, so you always know what to work on next. For example, Pronunciation is grouped into sound sets, liaison rules and sentence drills, while Grammar is split into topics such as tenses, articles and pronouns. This structure helps you focus on one clear objective at a time.
-
When you are signed in, Vocabrew keeps track of which activities you have completed and shows your progression for each skill on the dashboard. As you finish reading passages, listening tasks or pronunciation drills, your completion percentage increases so you can quickly see where you have spent the most time.
-
Vocabrew currently offers free access to core learning content, especially in Reading, Listening, Grammar and Vocabulary. Some advanced or AI-powered features may be restricted to signed-in users and could become part of paid plans in the future. If pricing ever changes, it will be clearly explained before you are asked to upgrade.
-
Yes. The website is built to be responsive, so you can use it on desktops, laptops, tablets and modern smartphones. For the best experience with Pronunciation and Speaking activities, we recommend using a device with a stable internet connection and a good microphone.
-
Vocabrew works best on the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Older browsers or very old operating systems may not fully support audio recording or modern security features. If something does not work as expected, try updating your browser first.
-
In Pronunciation activities you read or repeat short phrases while Vocabrew analyzes your recording. The system compares your speech to a model of correct French pronunciation and highlights which words or sounds are accurate, which ones are unclear and where you may need more practice. You can repeat the same item as many times as you like.
-
The feedback is generated using modern speech-analysis models and is generally reliable for study purposes, but it is not a perfect replacement for a human teacher. Use the color-coded guidance to notice patterns and improvement over time, and whenever possible combine it with real-life speaking practice.
-
Yes. Many of the activities can be used as homework, warm-ups or extra practice between lessons. Students can create their own accounts, work through the skills and then share their progress with you. In the future we plan to add features that will make it even easier for teachers to organize groups and track results.
